The Wilmington Symphony Orchestra has named Roy Robuck as conductor of its Youth Orchestra, effective for the 2026‑27 season. According to wwaytv3.com, Robuck has taught orchestra in Wilmington since 1997 and currently works at E.A. Laney High School and Emma B. Trask Middle School.
Robuck has been a member of the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra since 1980, performing under each of the organization’s music directors. The Youth Orchestra provides middle‑ and high‑school musicians from the Cape Fear region with rehearsal and performance opportunities to develop their skills.
Music Director Peter Askim said Robuck’s long‑time involvement with the symphony and his experience as an educator make him a strong fit for the role. Robuck added, “I look forward to working with these talented musicians, helping them grow as performers, and creating meaningful orchestra experiences that inspire a lifelong love of music participation.”
The orchestra also honored outgoing Youth Orchestra conductor Linda Estep for expanding educational opportunities during her three‑season tenure. Founded in 1971, the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra continues to present concerts and outreach programs throughout the Cape Fear area, reaching thousands of students each year.
