Two District 28 alumni receive inaugural Joanie Gilbert memorial scholarship

Two former District 28 music students were awarded the inaugural Joanie Gilbert Memorial Scholarship, Patch reported.

Emma Noll and Eva Weil, members of the Glenbrook North High School class of 2026, each received a $1,000 scholarship during the Glenbrook North Senior Awards ceremony held in May.

The scholarship was created by the District 28 Music Parents Club to commemorate Joanie Gilbert, a volunteer who supported the district’s music program and the broader Northbrook community for more than two decades before passing away in May 2026 after a brief illness.

Gilbert’s service was described as selfless and behind‑the‑scenes, with high standards that helped elevate the program, and she was also remembered as a close friend and confidante whose encouragement enriched the lives of students and music directors.

Both Noll and Weil were recognized for exemplary community spirit and for their participation in music programs within District 28 and at Glenbrook North, meeting the scholarship’s criteria.
