Technology: New Tools Support Creation, Rehearsal and Performance

New technology releases are giving musicians and music programs more flexible ways to create, rehearse and perform, with tools spanning vocal production, portable sound reinforcement and keyboard performance.

IK Multimedia ReSing Doubling
IK Multimedia’s ReSing Doubling builds layered vocal arrangements from one performance.

IK Multimedia introduced ReSing Doubling, an add-on that generates double-tracked vocals, three-voice stacks and ensemble-style arrangements from a single vocal performance. Users can control timing, pitch and stereo placement independently, allowing producers and content creators to build wider lead vocals or layered backing parts without recording every part as a separate take.

PROEL FREE Series battery-powered PA systems
PROEL’s FREE Series includes three battery-powered PA products.

PROEL Sound Systems addressed mobility with the FREE Series, a family of three battery-powered PA systems. FREETWOX combines an integrated digital mixer, USB playback and Bluetooth connectivity in an all-in-one cabinet. FREEPROX adds app control, USB recording and a color display, while the FREESUBX battery-powered subwoofer can extend either system without requiring a conventional power connection.

Robert Glasper KORG KRONOS signature sound collection
KORG and Robert Glasper developed new grand- and electric-piano sounds for KRONOS.

KORG expanded its KRONOS workstation with Glasper’s Grand & EP, a free signature sound collection developed with Robert Glasper. The approximately 2 GB collection includes grand- and electric-piano programs built for the KRONOS SGX-2 and EP-1 sound engines. KORG also released System Updater v3.2.3, adding the Tine EP VIII model to the workstation.

Although the products serve different parts of the music-making process, each reduces a practical constraint. ReSing Doubling expands arrangements from an existing performance, the FREE Series brings amplification to spaces without ready access to power, and the KRONOS collection gives keyboardists additional performance-ready sounds within an established instrument.
