Eight high‑school singers from Traverse City Central and Traverse City West are being spotlighted in this week’s Northern Express, underscoring the strength of vocal talent in the region.
The Ticker reported that the Verdi Opera Theatre of Michigan’s annual classical vocal competition, which draws high‑school participants from across the state, named six of its ten spring finalists from the two northern‑Michigan schools.
The competition’s results serve as a data point of the depth of vocal music programs at the district’s largest high schools.
Northern Express, a sister publication of The Ticker, dedicated its Local Music Scene issue to the region’s music community, featuring the eight choir members alongside local radio hosts and international rock acts.
The paper said it interviewed the eight singers to watch from Central and West, and that a free copy of the issue is available online and at roughly 650 distribution points in 13 northern‑Michigan counties.
