iecn.com reported that the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra will hold auditions for its Youth Orchestra and Overture Orchestra programs for the 2026 season. Auditions are set for Aug. 19‑31 and Sept. 2, each day from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and must be registered online at least 24 hours in advance.
The dual‑ensemble program, launched a year ago by music director Anthony Parnther, provides intensive rehearsals, mentorship from symphony musicians and public performances. Program director Lucy Lewis, who also teaches orchestral studies at CSU San Bernardino, said the orchestras give young players a supportive environment that pushes them toward high musical standards.
Susan Barnes, leader of the Overture Orchestra, described the ensemble as a vital stepping‑stone for middle‑school musicians, helping them build teamwork, confidence and a lasting love of orchestral music.
Auditions are open to students ages 11‑18 from the Inland Empire, Coachella Valley and surrounding areas. Accepted applicants must attend a mandatory orientation on Sept. 13, 2‑5 p.m. The first rehearsal is scheduled for Sept. 20, with weekly Sunday rehearsals thereafter; the Youth Orchestra meets 2‑5 p.m., and the Overture Orchestra meets 3‑4:30 p.m.
Lewis encouraged community members to attend the symphony’s upcoming 2026 and 2027 concerts.
