Oxford Youth Orchestra dazzles Vettelscho audience during summer tour

NR-Kurier reported that the Oxford Youth Orchestra played at the Catholic St. Michael’s Church in Vettelscho on July 24, 2026, as part of a five-day summer tour of Germany.

The project orchestra, made up of musicians aged 14 to 18 who aim for professional careers, rehearsed daily for the tour. This year’s itinerary also included performances at Christuskirche in Boppard and the Altenberger Dom.

The program featured Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, Leonard Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances, Arturo Márquez’s Danzón No. 2 and excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

Peter Gillrath, chair of the Klein-Bethlehem e.V. association, introduced the group and thanked the audience for the near-two-hour concert. The crowd responded with enthusiastic applause, and many expressed a wish to see the orchestra return next year.

Despite summer holidays and a busy local schedule, the concert was well attended. Listeners praised the ensemble’s sound balance, precision in tutti passages and the nuance of solo sections. Event organizers asked for donations to the Good Samaritan Rehabilitation and Training Centre in Thalavil, Kerala, India, rather than charging admission.
