Overture, originally launched in 2022 as a video game to help children compose music, has redirected its focus to AI literacy programs for schools, Analytics Insight reported.
The change came after school leaders expressed a need for a responsible way to introduce artificial intelligence to younger students, prompting co‑founder and COO Steven Jiang and partner Aspen Buckingham to redesign the company’s mission.
Today the Chicago‑based firm runs AI enrichment curricula in more than 50 schools across Chicago and Boston and aims to expand to over 120 programs in multiple states, reaching thousands of students.
The curriculum emphasizes active creation, using paper‑and‑pencil activities and teacher training to ensure safe, age‑appropriate learning, a shift Jiang says reflects his belief that children learn best by making things.
Overture also employs over 50 part‑time educators, many drawn from local artistic communities, and has benefited from participation in Techstars while Jiang was still in college.
Jiang, recognized by Forbes 30 Under 30 and Inno 25 Under 25, says the long‑term goal is to deliver high‑quality AI education nationwide through mission‑aligned partners.
