PSJA ISD Earns 12th Consecutive Music Education Award

Texas Border Business reported that Pharr‑San Juan‑Alamo Independent School District has earned the 2026 Best Communities for Music Education award from the NAMM Foundation, marking its 12th straight year receiving the honor.

The NAMM Foundation, the charitable arm of the National Association of Music Merchants, works to eliminate barriers that limit access to music‑making and related career pathways.

The district secured the distinction after a thorough review that considered funding levels, instructional minutes, participation rates, facilities and community backing, according to Texas Border Business. Its band, choir, mariachi, conjunto, orchestra and elementary music programs all contributed to the accolade.

Investments continue in performance venues, including the ongoing renovation of the PSJA ISD Oso Dome Auditorium, which will provide a modern stage for student concerts and community events, Texas Border Business reported.

Superintendent Dr. Alejandro Elias said fine arts play a vital role in a well‑rounded education. Students from elementary through high school now enjoy a broad array of music programs that foster creativity, discipline, teamwork and leadership. More information is available on the district’s fine‑arts website.
