Hanwha Group recently held a music camp for participants in its Hanwha Youth Orchestra program, biz.heraldcorp.com reported.
The event took place Monday and Tuesday at the Hanwha Life Campus in Suanbo-myeon, Chungju, according to the group’s Wednesday announcement. The Hanwha Youth Orchestra program offers classical music education to young people in Cheonan and Cheongju who have limited access to such opportunities.
The program, modeled after Venezuela’s El Sistema, aims to build self-esteem and a sense of community among disadvantaged youth through music, biz.heraldcorp.com reported. Members from Cheonan focus on string instruments, while those from Cheongju play wind instruments. Approximately 60 members receive training annually, and the program has supported around 800 members since its launch in 2014, according to biz.heraldcorp.com.
This year’s camp emphasized blending individual sounds into a unified performance, moving from individual practice to full ensemble rehearsals, biz.heraldcorp.com reported. Participants also attended a musical and watched a performance by professional instructors to develop skills such as stage presence and audience engagement.
One student, Chae Seung-han, told biz.heraldcorp.com that playing with unfamiliar peers initially felt awkward, but that listening to one another fostered confidence and a sense of community. The members are scheduled to hold a concert in Cheongju in November, biz.heraldcorp.com reported.
