Tampa Bay music teacher Ernesta Chicklowski, affectionately known as “Mrs. Chick,” has been nominated for a Grammy Award for the fifth time. According to Tampa Bay 28, the nomination is for the Music Educator Award.
Chicklowski has previously received multiple local and state Teacher of the Year awards, as reported by Tampa Bay 28. She describes her teaching philosophy as prioritizing authenticity, stating that children can readily discern genuineness.
While Chicklowski says winning the Grammy isn’t her primary goal, she appreciates the recognition it provides within the music education community and the validation that she is making a difference, according to Tampa Bay 28. She also maintains an active teaching schedule outside of school, including lessons at the Studio of South Tampa and themed summer camps, as detailed by Tampa Bay 28.
Chicklowski continues to teach despite living with multiple sclerosis, as noted by Tampa Bay 28. A separate report from Tampa Bay 28 details a Sarasota County teacher who lost her home in a fire started by a lightning strike.
