Music teachers seeking to advance their careers into leadership roles can participate in a webinar hosted by the Australian Society for Music Education (ASME). According to ASME, the 75-minute online session is intended for teachers aiming for positions such as Head of Music, Director of Bands, or Leader of Learning.
The webinar will cover key aspects of leadership, including identifying strengths, articulating a vision, and understanding personal motivations. ASME states that these elements are crucial for those seeking leadership roles. Participants can expect real-world examples, reflection exercises, group activities, and breakout sessions.
Associate Professor Brad Merrick, of ASME Victoria, will lead the session. Merrick has over 35 years of leadership experience in schools and educational systems. He has previously held roles including Head of Music, Director of a Research Institute, and served as past National President of ASME Australia, among other leadership positions. ASME acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first musicians and educators in Australia.
