A former Nebraska band teacher has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a student over a three-year period during private music lessons, KGNS reported. Authorities say 33-year-old Nathaniel Acton faces multiple felony counts including first- and third-degree sexual assault of a child, child abuse, and child enticement via electronic communication.
The York County Sheriff’s Department received a report on July 19 regarding the allegations involving Acton and a teenage student from Centennial Public Schools, according to KGNS. Court documents indicate the assaults occurred multiple times while Acton was purportedly providing music instruction. The investigation began after the victim’s mother discovered messaging between the two on Snapchat in early 2024, leading to an interview at the BraveBe Child Advocacy Center in Lincoln.
Acton resigned from Centennial Public Schools at the end of the 2023-24 academic year and subsequently accepted a position with Bruning-Davenport Unified School District, KGNS noted. Centennial officials stated his prior resignation was unrelated to these current allegations but confirmed they followed established procedures to evaluate the claims. The Bruning-Davenport district confirmed Acton agreed to resign again on Wednesday morning following notification of the investigation, with the board scheduled to consider the resignation in August.
