The National Youth Orchestra of the United States (NYO-USA) has embarked on a two-week tour of Europe, symphony.org reported. The orchestra, comprising nearly 100 teen musicians from 32 states and the District of Columbia, will perform in Berlin, Amsterdam, Aldeburgh, England, and Edinburgh, Scotland, from August 1 to 13.
The tour follows an opening concert at Carnegie Hall on July 31. Conductor Karina Canellakis leads the summer 2026 program, which features Barber’s Overture to The School for Scandal, Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F with pianist Kirill Gerstein, and Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra.
In Europe, NYO-USA makes its first stop at the Konzerthaus Berlin for the Young Euro Classic. Subsequent venues include the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Snape Maltings Concert Hall in Aldeburgh, England, and Usher Hall in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Prior to the tour, musicians rehearsed at Purchase College, SUNY. They participated in sectional rehearsals and master classes led by musicians from American professional orchestras. Annapolis Symphony Orchestra Music Director José-Luis Novo, serving as director of orchestras, prepared the ensemble before the arrival of Canellakis and Gerstein.
