JamFests move school bands from classrooms to professional venues, starting each day with a sound check that introduces students to PA systems, monitor mixes, and a genuine audience. The events are deliberately non‑competitive, fostering a collaborative vibe where peers cheer from the front row and share their progress.
In New York City, fourteen schools from across Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Queens converged for a JamFest, while Chicago hosted over 135 students who performed for about 600 community members. Indianapolis reported four schools leaving the day with newly formed, ongoing relationships. These figures illustrate the broad reach and community impact of the festivals.
Music Will’s regional teacher ambassadors coordinate the festivals, providing mentorship, logistical support, and advocacy within their locales. The Music Performance Trust Fund, a Philadelphia sponsor, highlighted the event’s multigenerational camaraderie, union collaboration, and strong public backing, calling it a clear success.
