nj1015.com reported that the Manchester Township Middle School choir shared the stage with the rock group Foreigner on Sunday night at the PNC Bank Arts Center in front of a large audience.
The choir performed the choral portion of Foreigner’s hit “I Want to Know What Love Is,” joining the band for the song in front of thousands of concertgoers.
Choir director Katie Sherman said the experience helped students build confidence, create lasting memories and see the results of dedication to their craft.
Foreigner contributed $500 to the district’s music program as part of the collaboration.
The performance was part of the band’s “Foreigner 4 Education” initiative, which partnered with sister Townsquare Media station 105.7 The Hawk to invite school choirs to submit one‑minute videos for a chance to appear at the concert.
Sherman worked with nationally recognized cinematographer Greg Lassik to produce the submission, rehearsing the song for two hours to perfect the audio and visuals, and including footage of choir members having fun in school hallways.
When Hawk host Doug Bueler announced the choir’s selection, the students celebrated enthusiastically.
The original 1984 version of the song, from Foreigner’s album “Agent Provocateur,” has New Jersey ties, having been performed by the New Jersey Mass Choir, which also appeared in the video.
