Loveland Reporter-Herald reported that a fireworks booth set up in a Safeway parking lot near U.S. 34 and Taft Avenue serves as a major fundraiser for Loveland High School’s band program.
The booth, staffed by parents and students, sells items such as sparklers, fountains and strobes, with proceeds earmarked for band expenses including costumes, equipment, instruments, transportation and trips, according to the newspaper.
Volunteer Jenelle Turnbull, whose son Beau plays trombone in the band, said the fundraiser helps offset the more than $700 seasonal cost per marching‑band student for bussing and competition fees.
Another volunteer, Kyle Cunningham, supports the booth to aid his daughter Mya’s first color‑guard season, noting that the event is run entirely by volunteers.
Fire Marshal Sarah Winter warned that only ground‑based, non‑exploding fireworks sold at the booths are legal in Loveland, and violations can result in fines up to $300 under state law.
Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Director Kate Kimble confirmed the same restrictions apply in unincorporated county areas, with potential fines of up to $1,000, and announced a new reporting tool for illegal fireworks to be available July 1‑6.
Both officials advised keeping water or a hose nearby to extinguish small incidents, following manufacturer instructions, and avoiding alcohol while handling fireworks.
