Youth Theater Program - Assistant Director

Assistant Director (4 points)

• Assists with casting the show.

• Assists director with Strategic Planning: Casting, Blocking and Scheduling rehearsals.

• Communicates clearly with parents the schedule and expectations of the cast in regard to behavior, rehearsal attendance, and commitment to the show.

• Communicates clearly with parents the items students are responsible to provide for themselves (this could include a personal makeup kit, base layers, and jazz shoes)

• “Calling the show” during the performances.

• Directs technical cues for sound, lighting, and mics on headset.

• Communicates with stage manager backstage to assist with the show running smoothly (curtain calls, preparing cast to find their places)

• Troubleshoots any problems that arise.

• Team Management: Checking in on the work of each member of the team.

• Keeps notes of all blocking and technical cues in order to assist with running rehearsals when director is not available.
