Job Title: Colorguard Technician

Reports to: Head Band Director / Colorguard Instructor

Calendar: July 27 through November 13, 2026

Hours per Week: 15 hours per week / 5 days per week

Dept./School: High School Campus

PRIMARY PURPOSE

As an integral part of the colorguard staff, Colorguard Technician assists in rehearsal planning and in implementing a movement and equipment technique program in conjunction with the Colorguard Instructor. May be involved in recruiting and assisting with development of a comprehensive colorguard program at the MS level.

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Strong leader in the pageantry arts

• Excellent skills in movement and equipment performance

• Ability to work with students

• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

• Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience:

Extensive experience in the marching arts (DCI, WGI, college marching band, etc.)

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Essential Functions

• Assist in implementing movement/equipment technique in ensemble and sectional setting.

• Assist in teaching and cleaning drill responsibilities.

• Attend all competitions as needed by the Colorguard Instructor.

• Attend all rehearsals during the course of the season as agreed upon by Director of Bands.

• Attend Colorguard Camp and summer band rehearsals. Dates and times determined by Director of Bands.

Other

• Comply with policies and regulations established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.

• Maintain confidentiality regarding student and coworker information and as required by FERPA.

• Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

MENTAL DEMANDS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS / ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

Tools/Equipment Used: UDB app, portable stereo system with Bluetooth, flag, rifle, sabre

Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking/marching

Lifting: Occasional lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds)

Environment: Work outside and inside; exposure to extreme temperatures (hot, cold, and inclement weather), humidity, and prolonged sunlight; work on uneven or slippery surfaces; frequent exposure to noise. Occasional statewide and overnight travel

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
