La Nazione reported that a free concert will be held in Florence’s Piazza della Signoria on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2026, at 9 p.m., featuring the Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra as part of the 27th International Festival of Youth Orchestras.
The Chinese youth ensemble, directed by Italian clarinetist Maestro Lorenzo Antonio Iosco, will open with “Guia The Light House of Macau,” a tribute to the late composer Doming Lam that evokes the historic Guia lighthouse and Macau’s maritime traditions.
The program will continue with a performance of Domenico Cimarosa’s comic opera Il matrimonio segreto, originally written for Vienna’s Burgtheater in 1792 on the commission of Emperor Leopold II. A Mendelssohn trio follows: the Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64, featuring soloist Paloma So; the overture “The Hebrides – Fingal’s Cave,” Op. 26; and his Symphony No. 4 in A major, Op. 90 “Italian,” composed during his 1829‑31 Italian tour.
The concert will take place beneath the Loggia dei Lanzi and admission is free.
