WBKO reported that Ohio County High School has appointed Dylan Harrison as its new band director as the marching program prepares for the upcoming competitive season.
Harrison, who previously worked with several Kentucky school bands, helped the Cumberland County band earn its highest‑ever finish at state finals and spent three years as an assistant director at LaRue County, according to the report.
He said the school’s long‑standing marching tradition, dating back to the mid‑1980s and highlighted by a 1993 state‑final appearance, made the position appealing. Harrison expressed a desire to return the program to high‑level competition while emphasizing that scores and trophies should not be the sole focus.
In his inaugural year, Harrison plans to foster discipline, confidence and a strong sense of community among his students, believing that hard work will lead to the desired results.
Harrison told WBKO that his ambition to lead his own program began when he joined the 6th‑grade band at age 11.
He noted that Ohio County’s marching championships started in 1986 and that a 1993 state‑final appearance remains a memorable achievement for the school.
He added that while competition scores matter, the focus will be on work ethic, describing his students as “super hardworking” and confident in the product they produce.
