Music programs at St. Timothy Junior/Senior High School, Cochrane High School, and Bow Valley High School in Cochrane, Alberta, will receive a boost thanks to a donation from 91.5 CochraneNow. CochraneNow reported the donation, which totals $3,200, was presented to the schools through Golden West Broadcasting’s Canadian Content Development (CCD) grant program.
The annual CCD initiative aims to support music education and provide students with new opportunities, equipment, and learning experiences, according to CochraneNow. At St. Timothy Junior/Senior High School, Principal David Gowans told CochraneNow that previous donations helped create a student-led exploratory music lab with instruments and recording equipment, which has become a popular gathering place for students.
Gowans believes music and art programs are vital for student development, and expressed a desire for more opportunities for students to explore diverse interests, CochraneNow reported. At Bow Valley High School, Band, Jazz and Guitar teacher Taylor Grant said the funding will help students participate in a planned trip to nationals in Calgary, including a tour of Banff and the Calgary Philharmonic, as reported by CochraneNow.
Grant also noted that previous donations have supported instrument maintenance, assisted students facing financial barriers, and expanded the school’s music library, including the acquisition of Indigenous concert music and works by female composers, CochraneNow stated. The donations reflect Golden West Broadcasting’s commitment to supporting arts and culture in the communities it serves.
