ASME Submits Formal Feedback on Queensland ATAR Scaling to QTAC

ASME Submits Formal Feedback on Queensland ATAR Scaling to QTAC

On 3 August 2026 the Australian Society for Music Education (ASME) submitted a detailed response to QTAC’s review of the ATAR calculation and scaling methodology, authored by the QLD administration team. The document outlines perceived unintended educational consequences linked to current subject scaling practices in Queensland .

The submission, dated 20 July 2026, argues that the existing scaling framework may steer students away from subjects such as music, potentially narrowing pathways for aspiring musicians and composers. It cites evidence that scaling influences subject selection patterns and calls for a review that mitigates adverse effects on music education and related creative disciplines .

ASME urges QTAC to consider revisions that promote equitable outcomes across all disciplines, emphasizing the need for a balanced scaling approach that supports diverse educational interests. Stakeholders are invited to examine the full submission and contact ASME for further discussion through the organisation’s official channels .
