Thirty-four high school marching bands gathered at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on Saturday for the 2026 Indiana State Fair Band Day, where judges named Anderson High School the overall champion. WBIW reported that the Marching Highlanders secured the title following a full day of preliminary and evening performances presented by Music Travel Consultants and Paige’s Music.
The event evaluated ensembles on musical accuracy, visual execution, ensemble effect, and field presentation. Preliminary rounds during the day narrowed the field to the top 16 groups, which then performed under the lights for the championship showcase. The competition highlighted the discipline and teamwork central to Indiana’s track show culture.
The 2026 Indiana State Fair continues through Sunday, Aug. 23, with closures scheduled for Mondays. Visitors can still access carnival rides, agricultural competitions, live music, and traditional food throughout the remainder of the summer run. This annual showcase has long served as a celebration for student musicians from across the state.
