The Rapid City Journal reported that the U.S. Air Force Academy Band performed at the Memorial Park Bandshell in downtown Rapid City on Wednesday, July 1, delivering a brass‑focused set of patriotic tunes to a sizable audience.
Concertgoers spread out on folding chairs, bleachers and the park’s grassy lawn, many wearing red, white and blue shirts while flag banners and signs advertising food, drinks and fun hung from temporary barriers around the stage.
Lt. Col. Michael Hoerber, the band’s commander and conductor, led the ensemble, spoke with Rapid City Mayor Jason Salamun before the show and encouraged the crowd to clap during the performance, the journal said.
A recently commissioned 2nd Lt. presented the band to the audience, and Chief Master Sgt. Andrew Benton was seen reviewing a sheet of music onstage, according to the report.
The color guard stood by as the national anthem was played and presented flags, and the band’s brass section, including a French‑horn player with a patriotic tattoo, performed throughout the evening.
Mayor Salamun told the Rapid City Journal it was an honor for the city to host the Air Force Academy Band.
